It has been 5 years and for me there is change and forgiveness and (amazingly) true friendship on the other side. I don't call him my ex anymore - he's my son's father and he's still a big part of both of our lives but WOW did it take a lot of crying and raging and being unable to get out of bed and stress and anxiety and fear and pain to get there. So I feel for you.
